GERMAN WWII LUFTWAFFE PARATROOPERS UNIT MARKED VISOR CAP.
An utmost rarity being a size 55 Luftwaffe enlisted ranks flying section cap constructed in the officers rib material, good bright yellow waffenfarbe to both the crown and the upper and lower parts of the mohair centre band. Three small white spots to the rear of the crown, slight fraying to the mohair centre band and one moth nip to the crown waffenfarbe to the left hand side of the early short droop tailed eagle insignia with matching central aluminium cockade. Standard chinstrap with double buckles. An unusual form of side button fitted in black. Double strengthened front edge to the visor. One crease mark on the visor that matches where the chinstrap has been sitting for many years and probably some time in a hot environment. To the interior the cap is showing obvious wear use. The light tan liner band is all intact but with a few minor tears close to the edges of the front peak, an unidentified number ‘4905’ has been hand applied to the exterior of the liner band. A small patch has been inserted by a previous collector to hold the sweatband together close to the area of one of the side buttons, the remainder of the liner is superbly marked, first being the ‘LBA.B39’ stamping followed by a full stamp of ‘1./FALLSCH.’JAGER’RGT.2’ with ‘3.KLMP’ below, on the opposite side of the liner is an identical stamping but in larger font. The cap still has its original centre celluloid lozenge, which is silver blocked with the maker below, which is the outline of a German officers visor cap with eagle and swastika, dated ‘1939’ size stamp ‘55’ with the original owner’s name ‘Rudolph Heinz’ label tucked in the small section of the lozenge for a name tag. The upper inner crown lining has some damage, the upper inner crown area including the lozenge has been protected by an extra section of celluloid that has been manually placed to inside the crown area by a previous collector for protection. A superb cap.
