A well worn and lightly restored officers helmet from either Regiments 94, 95 or 153, these are the three Saxon Duchy regiments. The leather skull with a size disc of 55, frail in places, leather covering to the base of the skull thin in place, the skull has been strengthened by the addition of canvas to the inside rear. Both the front and back peaks are securely fitted to the skull, the stitching has not rotted. Gilt brass officers back strap, which has toned. The gilt has completely disappeared from the officers spike and spike base with some gilt remaining to the officers stars. The mid war period clip-over officers chin scales have also lost their gilt. The front plate, which is the rarity on the helmet is a very deeply struck Prussian plate with the central scroll of ‘Furst’ with its overlaid very high quality Saxon Duchy’s plate in nickel, there has been some restoration to the plate on the reverse side. The interior of the helmet is clean with good clear green and red interiors to the front and back peak. The interior skull has good colour with original paper size label adhered for size 55. The mid brown sweatband is good with its inner gold lining of silk, which has shot in places but is generally firm and in place. Complete with its Saxon Duchy green, silver and green correct cockade. The helmet is priced accordingly to its condition but it must be remembered of its rarity. A helmet of this scarcity in excellent condition would command at least £2,000.
