A very good condition experimental helmet No.5A, which although the shell was produced in 1918 this example has been experimented with again officialy after WW1 by changing the liner to the USA produced liner for the US Brodie the small holes that held the original inner in place have been ordnance filled and the shell repainted in a smooth finish some losses to paint as can be seen from our web site images , the original finish was always a rough sand inclusive finish, Complete with its original canvas chinstrap and its four sections of the leather liner with its head crash pad in place. All of the four tongues of the leather liner system are present, three are split but still retains its original drawstring. During the latter stages of WWI the United States made many experiments to find a successor to the British designed American produced Brodie helmet, none were accepted but evidence is known of service trials at the front.
