GERMAN WWII M.36 INFANTRY OFFICERS TUNIC.
A standard medium size M.36 enlisted ranks tunic, which has been converted for wear by an officer. The instances of M.36 tunics being used by officers is huge, it can be seen in thousands of photographs of the German Forces of WWII. Standard M.36 tunic with five button front, four pockets with pleats, adjustable split cuffs, small rear vent, enlisted ranks lining. To convert it to officers use an officers dark green collar has been fitted, leutnant’s infantry white based shoulder boards stitched to the shoulders, infantry officers bullion wire collar patches fitted to the collar and interestingly the centre cording to each collar patch, which normally identifies the arm of service, on these examples is silver bullion and has no colour. High quality officers breast eagle fitted, which matches exactly the condition of the shoulder boards and the collar patches. Iron Cross 2nd class ribbon to the second buttonhole. Loops to the upper left hand pocket for three awards. The interior lining is standard with the exception that the bandage pocket has been removed. Hannover manufacturer’s name still visible with size stampings to the inside front of the lining with an over-stamping of what appears to be size changes with the original issue depot of ‘HO 39’. A hole also has been crudely cut through the interior lining and the front right hand pocket as the tunic is worn for the passing through of a dagger or sword hanger. The tunic is in superb condition, the nap is excellent and not one area of moth anywhere on the garment. Although thousands of photographs are seen of these tunics being worn, to actually obtain an original example is extremely difficult.
