GERMAN WWI HESSE ENLISTED MANS PICKELHAUBE.

An excellent condition small size all leather pickelhaube worn by a soldier in Hessian Regiment 118, the helmet is non size stamped but we would estimate size 54. Good strong leather skull with the front and back peaks securely attached to the main body of the helmet. All brass fittings, which include the back strap, cruciform base, Hesse spike, front Hessian plate and peak trim all matching, complete with the fittings to the leather strap. The helmet has both its Reichs and its Hessian cockade. The 7 tongued liner has some abrasions but is all complete with the leather drawstring. Clearly marked into the rear of the back peak '118' with the date '1893' plus a further stamping of '106' which we have been unable to identify, this cannot be another regimental marking as Regiment 106 is a Saxon Regiment and the holes for holding the Hessian front plate to this helmet are the totally original holes, wide apart as all Hessian plates are. The small remains of the original owner's name label to the interior skull. All Hessian helmets are rare as it was the smallest state of Imperial Germany.
